This was an individual project created for Non-linear editing at Olivet Nazarene University. It is one of the first major film projects I worked on, and is here to compare my skills from 2017 to today. I was the producer, director, and editor. The objective for this project was to create something that was unique, creative, and stood out from the competition. I ultimately decided to go with a dark and cryptic storyline. It was ambitious, and I made some mistakes that show this clearly. In short, I used props to tell the story, rather than allowing the film to show the story, and the props were usually pieces of paper with writing on them. I have learned from these mistakes, and focus on showing the story in all my projects. The second half of the film is where the story starts to show itself more. I chose to make cuts only on the beat to reinforce the rhythm and tone of the song and story. I also experimented with some effects, like adding color to key parts and blurring shots. This film was originally supposed to be in color, but I knew nothing of color temperature at the time, so it looked bad. I put it in black and white to solve this, which goes well with the tone anyway.
This film earned the creativity award in the class during that semester.
